Scottish Air gun consultation ...
They are launching a new one:

Even the BBC acknowledges the 87% against controls that came out of the last one.

Why waste more time and effort asking questions that won't be listened to? El Presidente Alex has already made his mind up, so whether it is carried by 1 vote or defeated by 99% of the 'consultees' the result will be the same .... a total cockup that can't be policed and will accomplish absolutely nothing of any value.

It might not accomplish much but don't think the police can't or won't enforce it.a total cockup that can't be policed and will accomplish absolutely nothing of any value

I'm sure they'll do their best, but they have already stated that they cannot hope to police the new law (no pun intended!).ordnance wrote:It might not accomplish much but don't think the police can't or won't enforce it.a total cockup that can't be policed and will accomplish absolutely nothing of any value

Existing legislation makes illegal any possible misuse of airguns – there is nothing antisocial, dangerous or otherwise unacceptable that could be done with an airgun which is not already an offence, and police currently have adequate powers to deal with any such incidents.
It may well be that the Scottish Police Force does not have the resources to implement the existing legislation as well as they would like – but that is not a reason for introducing this new layer of bureaucracy, which would stretch their resources even further, create a substantial extra workload and a host of new technical offences – for no positive or even useful result.
As the article states, the current provisions are capable of prosecuting any wrongdoers who use airguns illegally, and any further legislation will effectively weaken the overall quality of policing because of the extra workload/paperwork/BS etc etc.

I would say there would be an amnesty, after that anyone with an illegal air rifle could face jail. That would have a sobering effect on most that would think of ignoring the law.I'm sure they'll do their best, but they have already stated that they cannot hope to police the new law (no pun intended!).

Right you lot, can you not see how this works with that fat wee tumshie gobkeech and his criminally stupid sidekick McArsekill!
He will run it again because he got the WRONG ANSWER. Not enough Jakies, trollops, drug addicts and oushers voted NO so he will again court the dregs of scottish society from whence his support comes.
He could rope in that wee perjuror guy Tommy Sheridan - if he's out of jail! His poll said "ALL of Scotland is against guns" - then again he is a lying tw@t - as proven in a court of law!!

How are you defining an 'illegal air rifle'...as far as I was aware anyone over 18 can legally own a 'standard' (not over however many fps it is) air rifle...?ordnance wrote:I would say there would be an amnesty, after that anyone with an illegal air rifle could face jail. Edit - sorry I'm being a dumb-ass...you mean according to a new law...

I'm not sure where I stand on air rifle laws, but I would like to see more done to prevent idiots shooting anything that moves in their back gardens; especially neighbors cats.

If the feckers on your property, $hoiting in your flower beds, terrifying your little girls guinea pigs and rabbit, that feline vermin deserves everything it gets!!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Including shooting it several times with air pellets, leading to a slow painful death...?Sim G wrote:deserves everything it gets!!!
...surely there are better ways of discouraging annoying cats...there are many effective products on the market...though I find just running up the garden hissing loudly works.
