Sub fifty quid firearms

Prompted by an email this morning.

Some rifles and shotguns seem to have fallen out of favour because they are no longer desirable or in vogue or seem to serve any real purpose other than field/carry guns and accordingly seem to go for very little money which set me thinking. Would it be possible to fill a cabinet with cheap yet usable firearms with a budget figure of say GBP30.00-GBP50.00 and if so what would they be?

This needs to be currently available as opposed to what was in Gun Mart 40 years ago.

Baikal single barrel 12g (although double barrels do pop up every so often in budget)
BSA Sportsman 22RF (tube mag version if possible)
Rough .22 breakbarrel air rifle (old BSA again?)

Don't think you'd pick up a centrefire at that price point

Certainly with 22LR's and single shot shotguns. Centrefires you'll probably need to up the budget to £100-150, but if you're in the right place and at the right time...

BSA ParkerHale & CZ can be really cheap at the auction rooms. They can be tatty but a bootable. 270's are rarely shot out and go for a song. 22 spotters can be for pennies too. They just need some talc to make them shine again.

Remmy Nylons and some levers seem to go pretty cheap. Gunstar seems to have plenty of .22s around £50, I just wish I had more slots

I bought a rough SBS 12G last year for £50, as I was bored and wanted a restoration project to do. I forget what make it is, but perfectly serviceable and looks quite nice now. Needs low power cartridges though.

I'm going to be selling it soon, as I need the cabinet space if anyone is after a cheap and cheerful?! (PM me, don't want to derail this thread)

Have seen plenty of .22 RF around for that price, but CF rifles are less common at that price...

A couple of years ago on here I advocated exactly this, for everyone to buy a couple of 50 quid guns. Three reasons. Firstly, you might pick up a right bargain. Secondly, the more guns we have in possession, the less attractive legislation against them becomes because of "pay outs" and thirdly, to stimulate the gun trade.

Section 2 also means no variations or good reason.

I managed to pick up an Armi San Marco double hammer gun, with 24" barrels. As close to a coach gun as I can get on s2 and another little sxs...

The Holts auction has a sealed bid section - some pretty awful pieces. Some go for just a few pounds each and are bought either for restoration, to increase the numbers held nationwide or to display as de-acts.

It is always useful to have a nice little .410 around and the bolt action ones can be picked up for well under £50 - just need te woodwork sorting in a lot of cases.
