Gunsmith recommendations for 1894 Winchester

#1 Post by Triffid »

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith (preferable in the SE) who's good with lever actions (as per title).
A friend has one in 38-55 WCF which isn't feeding properly . . . cartridges come through from the magazine just fine, but then aren't fed up into the chamber.

Please don't suggest the F word at Bisley.

Thanks

Win 94's are VERY easy to work on yourself

Sounds like an issue with the lifter assy.

Suggest studying a few schematics, then look on YouTube

You could try Roding Armoury in Abridge Essex RM4 1YA they were able to fix my Winchester had the parts available, mine was a lifter fault.

If it's a lifter problem, may very well have difficulty locating such a part....

It does sound that way though.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Yep it sounds like the lifter they can break under heavy use I had to replace one in my 94AE actually finding some one to supply the parts is the difficult bit. I fitted mine my self they are a bit fiddly. You need to study the schematic and trawl you tube. That's if you can find a new lifter some were. But the lifter is the usual culprit.

Given that the rifle in question is an 1894 NOT a Model 94, then the lifter will be different to recent productionexamples..so that may limit which suppliers you can go to for spares. ..
