Great clapclap

I took my stepson out shooting my F/TR rifle and No4 some time back.

We has done a bit and was Police trained (met) but had never fired anything .30 cal etc, he loved it.

It was clear from the first timers on the open day that its a buzz, just such a bloody shame it is so hard facilitate folks having a go and the costs have risen so much tesnews

We get lots of people coming to the club, signing up as a probationer, doing a couple of visits and then never coming back. If you look at how many go on to get their FAC is probably only 25% of the first time visitors.

I think that's down to the restrictions on visits. If you could go as often as you want (within reason and escorted) instead of being forced to stick to club open days I reckon more people would stick with it. Having to wait a month between shoots, longer if you have to miss one, when you're excited and also aware of the long-slog ahead to get your FAC is soul destroying!

But you're not restricted to open days if you sign up as a probationer, generally, are you?

I feel that shooting is kinda unseen in the UK. Many people seem to think that all you can shoot in the UK (as a civilian) are shotguns. More exposure of some of the more action-oriented shooting might help popularise it, but on the other hand it may also attract media scare-stories, so I'm in two minds about the idea...

I'm doing my probationary period at the moment and our club run these sessions every Sunday morning, so no problem at all if you're keen.

The main issue is the waiting list to start as the club is oversubscribed and there are only so many ROs and lanes etc...

Not an open day .. He filled in the forms as a probationary member .. Supervised (closely) at all times !
