AR question (.22lr to .556)
Hi
How long does it take to swap out the upper receiver barrel etc on an AR?
I want to get a Lantac Raven but with both .22lr and .556 uppers so I can have one rifle for both types of shooting.
Is this possible?
I believe that it is if the lower is Mil spec which the Raven is.

Re: AR question (.22lr to .556)
Less than 10 seconds to change uppers. Push pins can be a bit stiff sometimes.
Re: AR question (.22lr to .556)
So this would be a feasible approach to cover both types then?
Is it possible to go to 300 blackout or normal 7.62 on the same lower?

300 Blackout feeds from 5.56/.223 mags, just a different barrel required. Lower would be the same for .22LR, .223/5.56 & .300BK.

Re: AR question (.22lr to .556)
Another option is using a .22LR chamber adapter in a .223. Accuracy isn't great due to the fast .223 barrel twist but it's a much cheaper alternative.

Re: AR question (.22lr to .556)
300 Blackout/Whisper is based on the .223/5.56/.221 case so is std. AR15 sizeGrahamcs wrote:Is it possible to go to 300 blackout or normal 7.62 on the same lower?
7.62, depends.....
7.63x39 (AK) is ok for AR15 actions, as its a shorter cartridge
7.62x51 (NATO)/.308 Win. is NOT as its the cartridge used in the larger AR10 actions
That said, there IS a USA firm making a single shot semi auto AR10 upper designed to fit an AR15 lower
Re: AR question (.22lr to .556)
Ratty - you mean the shooter has to feed the round manually directly in the chamber ? Is that correct ?
Grahamcs - a fellow shooter in my French club runs a mil-spec lower with two 5.56 uppers : one 16' with a fancy big scope and a 10.5 CQB glassed with an Eotech. Indeed he swaps them over in matter of seconds.

.
Drop the round in then release the bolt.
Round fires & ejects as normal, but the bolt then locks back.
Single shot = UK legal??

I'd imagine the mag well would have to be welded up and the front take-down pin permanently attached (so you couldn't swap lowers) for you to get away with itsaddler wrote:Yes.froggy wrote:Ratty - you mean the shooter has to feed the round manually directly in the chamber ? Is that correct ?
