Re: Sand - what type for filling rest bags
Sand is too heavy so i nicked a load of my chickens food...corn.
Its dense enough to make a firm rest for a rifle and if the shooting is lousy you can make popcorn with a saucepan and heat so the day may not all lost.

Poly pellets make great fillings, too. They are totally resistant to water as well, which sand, cat litter, corn etc etc isn't!DW58 wrote:Thanks everyone :shakeshout:

Re: Sand - what type for filling rest bags
Those look interesting, but how are they on weight, what would a front or back back weight filled with Poly-pellets?
Re: Sand - what type for filling rest bags
Google gives about 335g per pint! about half the density of building sand.

Yes, I found that out the hard way. There's enough kit to carry to the range already.Steve wrote:Sand is too heavy

Hmmm...spookilly ideal for providing a firm, recoil resistant rut for a rifle but to slide in while producing a stable platformRacalman wrote:Yes, I found that out the hard way. There's enough kit to carry to the range already.Steve wrote:Sand is too heavy

+1 for Chromite (Cheers Tim).
It is B heavy though.....

Re: Sand - what type for filling rest bags
To put this one to bed - I filled my bags with Poly Pellets and I'm very pleased with the way they've worked out, but it took between 5 and 6 kilos to fill both of the bags.

WOW, now even sand is getting technical - any day now someone on here will be selling Tactical Sand!
