If they want to wander around a friendly shop with lots of stuff to look at, Dauntsey guns is 10mims from J17 of M4.

Bath ? Sod weapons & send him to the Roman baths. Even if he saw it in the past, the "new" revamp makes the visit so much more evocative. It kept my son, 7yrs old at the time, captivitated for well over 3 hours. If he has not seen it already & I appreciate it is pretty obvious, but if in the region it would be sad not to see Stonehenge, Avebury, the white horses, the Kennet tumulus etc

If not to far and likes bigger stuff, the Bovington Tank museum is with Saumur one of the finest and houses the only Jagtiger in Western Europe.

If they are between going to be between Bath and Salisbury then the Infantry and Small Arms museum at Warminster may be of interest:

I think the London Proof House may do tours by prior arrangement - they're located with the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, if I remember it right. The RAF Museum's good as well, though there's not much small arms stuff in there.
Armalon do some good stuff but nothing as such to look at though, not really a browsing place but good if you want some work done or repairs etc and his rifle conversions are really nice, Peter has done stuff for me in the past and I've always been happy with it...... Even made me a cup of coffee when I used it as a stop off when I had to walk home from town the day of the London bombings.......
