Re: Owning a Bisley caravan
How about Short Siberia - We book it a couple of times a year for fun shoots - If you ask you can shoot standing at both 100 and 200 mards, but the range office like to put a spare lane next to you, so this far into the year you'd probably have to book mid-week to get a slot...Gaz wrote:a club day to shoot something other than prone rifle will prove to be equally good for my blood pressure.
About the caravan; it would probably be ok if the syndicate members were named at the start of the contract.
Edit: haven't you learned yet not to use the 'COW phrase' razz

Re: Owning a Bisley caravan
You wont get SS midweek as the Ninjas use it.
You would end up on the right hand end of Century in the week.

That's not too bad...I shot on Butt 19 yesterday at 100 yards; the point was a bit muddy (as you'd expect this time of year), but the only real difference to SS is that the targets are harder to get to and operate...
Re: Owning a Bisley caravan
Back to the actual subject being discussed? - I asked directly -
There is no waiting list for a site at Bisley nor a any fee, there are 6 empty sites on offer today by NRA but on the dump / bog known as site 7 only. Many vans have been removed because people did not pay or were not the official lease holders.
A consortium has to be leased via one name who has to be a full NRA member.
There are new rules coming in about appearance & maintenance if its an old dumpster they are apparently going to have them removed?
Decking is now charged at 1.5 per square foot (NRA work in Imperial units then?) & there are now different rates for 10 & 12 foot wide vans & by length. so a 12x32 will cost you 1300gbp that is the top rate & that is with a direct debit discount too of about 150.
Vans are being moved off the site near the RAF club as that will be the delux site with serviced pitches with elecy, water drains & a mix of lodges & caravan spaces. Vans being moved off here are being moved elsewhere or scrapped.
There are a number of people who openly advertise & rent their caravans out for short periods (week) such as the NSRA meeting, Hay ride, the NRA have never objected, nor stopped that as far as I know, anyway advertise in a discrete or network way & build up a little client base to use.
Subletting is not renting to mates or associates for a week(end), subletting is handing it all over for the duration not occasional private sharing for some 'consideration' towards costs of gas, usage etc. There is a healthy trade in small bore shooters wishing to hire for the NSRA meeting.
Yes there are people who lease a site by proxy via the original official leaseholder, when the NRA find out they simply give notice then tow it to scrap & kick the squatter out.

Caravans are a blot on the landscape at Bisley, an eyesore.
They should get rid of them all and build a nice Travelodge

Re: Owning a Bisley caravan
if there is such a demand for accomodation, why dont they build some some lodges, and rent out

Er they were going to but as some of Bisley is an SSSI and comes under two different councils it wasn't as easy as you would think.greenshoots wrote:if there is such a demand for accomodation, why dont they build some some lodges, and rent out

Re: Owning a Bisley caravan
Nope - it should all be easy. You just need to have it in one name and not advertise it to all and sundry. Noone minds people sharing a caravan but trying to make money out of it would be frowned upon.Gaz wrote: OK, so it's a giant can of worms liable to be tipped over my head if someone decides they want to be officious. Go for it!

I thought there was approval for a Travelodge or similar, what happened to the project?Billy-Bullseye wrote:Caravans are a blot on the landscape at Bisley, an eyesore.
