A simple phone call to the Home Office Firearms Licencing Unit (contact details used to be in Guidance) to inform them that your local police are overstepping the mark, possibly with a comment to your local MP, is all that is required. The police need never know who made the complaint.

Well in that case the next proper variation I have I will do that with, I do like the idea of just putting 7.5 instead of all the other crap, however, on my FAC everything is listed as 6.5x52, 7.5x54 etc... does that affect it in anyway? do they need to know that
Re: For Sale 6.5x47 Accuracy International AE for sale
They shouldn't, as the stripey one says, the guidance says calibre, not chamber.
SY are Ok with that but I'veheard a lot of people saying their force requires specifics.
Mine just says "7.62 Rifle", giving me .308 and all the 7.62 options I need.
We also talked about 6.5 and that would cover .260 and all the other obscure 6.5s out there.

You specify what calibre you want when you apply for your variation, say 7.62 mm.
Once the variation is granted you go out and purchase a new firearm. It could be 7.62 x39, x 51 or 54R for example.
You then tell Mr Plod what you have bought and he records it on your FAC such as to identify the individual firearm, ie,
Rifle, bolt action, 7.62x54R, serial 1234567
or
Rifle, Martini action, 7.62x51, serial 1234568
At this point, your ammunition holding will be recorded to in the appropriate chambering, say 600 rounds of 7.62x39

My 7.62 slots are listed as 7.62/.308 and I know for a fact Northamptonshire will only allow 7.62x51 as that's the .308 equivalent, however... on my .260 slot there's no metric value, so it might be worth an e-mail!

Well if they accept it I am happy and the rifle is yours if you want it.

Aww C'mon David...I have just spent a fortune rebarrelling, fitting a new trigger and AICS to my Remy, just to make it into a 6.5x47.
And you come along and sell one that I would have much preferred.
No Fair.
