That's it in a nutshell.

I agree that the NRA need to do more for shooters around the whole of the nation, but as Mike says...lets give them a chance...

But the 'Bisley-centric' argument is pointless - We've discussed it before...there does need to be a focal point, and it makes sense to hold the main events there - It's been where it is for 150 years, and has all the infrastructure to accommodate large events...to replicate it else where would run to 7 figures, and just trying to maintain it as it is costs large sums... so what would be the point of trying to run meetings somewhere else?

Geographically it is actually in a very good place to serve the maximum amount of people in the UK...can you suggest another place that would be better, considering population densities and road links...?

Also another reason it's the 'National' Rifle Association, is because it hosts national events...to which plenty of folk travel from all over the UK, Europe and even further afield to compete.

How many more centuries would you like?
Anyone can attend my club's open days, does that make them a national event?

I don't read my own signature!

Dougan,
Geographically it is actually in a very good place to serve the maximum amount of people in the UK
How do you come to that conclusion Dougan?
to replicate it else where would run to 7 figures
How do you know that?
so what would be the point of trying to run meetings somewhere else?
Well Dougan, as I have stated before mate, not everyone lives close to Bisley, so how far are you from Bisley? An hour? a bit more than an hour?. I can think of three ranges of the top of my head North of the Watford gap were meets could be held on a rotational basis. I reckon if they did that they may have more competitors taking part, then again maybe not if it means folks South of the Watford gap having to do what the Northerners, Welsh, Northern Irish and Scots have to do to get to Bisley.

I don't believe that Bisley is all that central, in fact I believe that numbers would increase if it were held somewhere north of Watford say every other year. Tell me Dougan, if it were to be held up in Catterick, would you attend? From Dorset that's something like an 800 mile round trip mate.

The Olympics were not held at Bisley, too far to commute for the competitors from memory.

I was talking about national (UK) and international team competitions...if you can arrange such events at your club open days then great...
