How many of these (5 million, 1.5 Million, 13,000??) box tickers attend any shoots? Phoenix, Imperial, any of the matches on the NRA calendar, NSRA calendar, CPSA calendar?

Ticking boxes on websites ain't going to save any sport. Getting your arses out and taking part will do that! So you've all 'signed' the petition - what you going to do now?

I expect attendances at Phoenix, Imperial, Trafalgar and the hundred and one other shoots held up and down the country to start increasing? Hmmmm...

I cant comment on some of the events listed above although i will be shooting a match in the imperial this year, what i can comment on is the Civilian Service Rifle winter league which is not only well attended but attracts upwards of a hundred shooters every match and is gaining more. This is shot through the winter months and people travel as far a field as denmark to shoot it. If you saw some of the conditions Century range was in youd see the enthusiasm and dedication.

I myself wouild like to experience pistol shooting and atleast have the chance to own one. Not to pose infront of the mirror or to look at it now and again but to get it out and actually shoot it and rather than negativity, I would like to see some positivity towards this. What i see from the original Ban is legeslation for the many based on one shooter and some mistakes by the local police force. You cant legislate for one person on that day who could not see the difference between right and wrong. My Heart does go out to all the victims for there loss and there continued suffering but they should not have been used as a vehicle to pass new legislation.

How does it save our sport? A bunch of people sat in a field punching paper with no voice that anyone gives a sh!t about?
Were people not shooting in '97? That's right, they were, ignoring the actual threat, politicians.
Instead of chuntering away with the same old tag line why don't you just stick to your niche and let the rest of the shooting community defend you from the real threat.
What do you honestly expect, that Cameron will head to Bisley, see just how many middle/later-aged blokes are there with their range-rovers and .308 AIs or VQ Ruger 10/22s and think "That's a sport worth saving..."? What happens if he goes on a quiet day? He might just condemn shooters the way you have and ban all firearms due to lack of attendance.
I understand your agenda, keep your gallery-rifle niche going in the hopes that you will be overlooked come the next wave of political posturing, but do you honestly think that will work in a world run by snivelling politicians and a legal system bent to the will of the weak?

I'm sure there are plenty more people who could afford to go to meetings like the Trafalgar if they wanted to...I'm hardly wealthy my self mate; going to the Phoenix and the Trafalgar are my holidays some years...

I agree about the technology issue - I recon a significant proportion of shooters either don't use computers at all, or not enough to be aware of the campaign...and I think helping fellow club-members create email accounts etc. is a good idea.

Well Dougan I don't know about that mate, hell when my three were growing up a lot of the time it was a bit of a job getting time away to shoot even just locally. Kids football games and other stuff kids do and want you and Mum there to watch just for starters.

I don't believe you're married or have been, am I right on that? If I am right then believe me Dougan when I say that time, family and money (or lack of the latter) play a huge part on time away shooting. Admittedly it gets somewhat easier has the kids grow up and start flying the coop but imagine this scenario.

Wife has had a tough week and she's knackered zzzzom , rugrats have been or are not the usual little angels they usually are and then you announce that it's the Bisley weekend even though you told her months ago. How do you think that's going to go down. Ah Dougan, the best laid plans of mice and men and all that my friend. Such are the joys of married life and parenthood Hey no complaints here though, but it can be tough mate.

You're spot on that I'm not married with kids; but that doesn't mean I'm not still subject to the law of 'best laid plans...' - It's one of the big bank-holiday weekends, and I'd of loved to go shooting...however It's my nephew's wedding today, and I've ended up host to some of the visiting family from abroad for the weekend...no wonder I'm a little grumpy

So I'll have to catch up with you old curmudgeons and this debate in a few days...though I may be ignoring Halodin razz

I have telephoned Andrew Mercer to express my thanks for the action. I was unable to speak with him but have left a voice message expressing our gratitude.

The petition stands at 13,467. A boost would be great so please all promote it as widely as possible if you feel able?

One word - Participation. Playing around in the virtual world don't really cut it or count chap!

Take part - 10,000 people shooting a national competition counts more than a 1000 and certainly counts more than web box ticking.

So - you coming to any shooting competitions and events this year? Phoenix, Imperial, Winter CSR leagues, CPSA registered clay shoots, Practical shotgun matches, historics matches etc - any others? Plenty in the calendars of the appropriate organising bodies.
