Re: New Petition - Part 2 (Number of signatures: 13,188)
How many of these (5 million, 1.5 Million, 13,000??) box tickers attend any shoots? Phoenix, Imperial, any of the matches on the NRA calendar, NSRA calendar, CPSA calendar?
Ticking boxes on websites ain't going to save any sport. Getting your arses out and taking part will do that! So you've all 'signed' the petition - what you going to do now?
I expect attendances at Phoenix, Imperial, Trafalgar and the hundred and one other shoots held up and down the country to start increasing? Hmmmm...

What have I said that's riled you?

Dougan, did you yourself not state "Dougan wrote:I resent that mate (no biggie though) - You want to talk about 'apathy'...what about the Trafalgar meeting? - The attendance is getting so low that the meetings future isn't looking great - Now I don't know how many classic rifle owners live within driving range of Bisley, but it would take less than 100 more competitors to secure the events future...Blu wrote:And there my friend you have it in one, Apathy. Your own apathy and that of the others in the sport will be the death of it unless you overcome that apathy and fight the closures and such.
...and that's a guaranteed result that could be achieved this year...
" and did I not reply "Your own apathy and that of the others in the sport will be the death of it unless you overcome that apathy.(maybe because I'm becoming one of those apathetic old farts)
You mention the low attendance at the Trafalgar meeting, well there's the apathy I'm talking about though in all fairness mate, a day out at the range a couple of times a month and though I don't know the cost of the Trafalgar or the family commitments of sportsmen/women, it may not be in the reach financially or time wise of some people.
Dougan, I'm talking about the grassroots shooting here mate and not just Bisley events. Now I'm sorry if you feel resentful mate, it was not my intention to make you feel that way, you know that I think you're not a bad fella for a tree hugger, but the truth of the matter is mate, signing the petition and leaving it at that thinking you've done your bit isn't going to cut it.
Gotta get the word out there Dougan, as has already been stated, some of the older guys in the clubs may not even have a computer let alone be computer literate. Those are some of the folks the word has got to be gotten out to.
Now then, are we cool? tongueout

1. The inaccuracy - As I've said, no has said they're "against the campaign"HALODIN wrote:What have I said that's riled you?

2. The patronising tone - 'potential convertees'? 'hurdle'?
3. The "those", "our", "they" crap.

nfrancis.
With regards to the Phoenix, Imperial and Trafalgar shoots, not everybody has the time due to family or the money to attend those shoots and not everybody lives close to where those shoots are held. I believe that the sport starts at grassroot level and that is the bread and butter of the sport, not the Phoenix or the Imperial nor the Trafalgar or organised shoots for that matter though I have stated they are a part of it, but not a big part of it.

Well mate your expectations and reality are two different things now. It isn't just about attending organised shoots which are a part of it, it's also about getting out there with your club on shooting days or booking a range and getting out with a couple of mates or five or six. It's about helping to set up things like youth days and other club events to name but a few to get new blood in.I expect attendances at Phoenix, Imperial, Trafalgar and the hundred and one other shoots held up and down the country to start increasing? Hmmmm...

Blu,
I'm sure there are plenty more people who could afford to go to meetings like the Trafalgar if they wanted to...I'm hardly wealthy my self mate; going to the Phoenix and the Trafalgar are my holidays some years...
I agree about the technology issue - I recon a significant proportion of shooters either don't use computers at all, or not enough to be aware of the campaign...and I think helping fellow club-members create email accounts etc. is a good idea.
And of course we're cool

Well Dougan I don't know about that mate, hell when my three were growing up a lot of the time it was a bit of a job getting time away to shoot even just locally. Kids football games and other stuff kids do and want you and Mum there to watch just for starters.Dougan wrote:Blu,

I don't believe you're married or have been, am I right on that? If I am right then believe me Dougan when I say that time, family and money (or lack of the latter) play a huge part on time away shooting. Admittedly it gets somewhat easier has the kids grow up and start flying the coop but imagine this scenario.
Wife has had a tough week and she's knackered zzzzom , rugrats have been or are not the usual little angels they usually are and then you announce that it's the Bisley weekend
