Didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one! I'm 44 so does that put me at the top of the hill staring down into the abyss?!?

at 18 I guess im only about half way up the Hill, I suspect that I probably will have my guns taken off me in a large "buyback" or confiscation at some point in the future, my guess woud be sometime around 2020.

Anyone can shoot .22RF pistols in this country now and if good enough be chosen for the GB squad for Olympic and Commonwealth games events to compete. I was shooting next to a bunch of people this weekend who were competing with their perfectly legal .22RF section one pistols at Bisley on Melville range.

This is a half truth at best and an outright lie at worst. Nobody owns a .22" pistol in the UK - what we have as a legal option to shoot are carbines. The legal restrictions on those are worded so as to prohibit their ownership by clubs, placing an impossibly high barrier in the way of new shooters without FACs and young shooters looking to try new disciplines. That we have .22 carbines is a triumph of our spirit against adversity, but the intent of the 1997 ban was to destroy pistol shooting as a sport in GB. It failed - a few rich competitors can still travel overseas to train - but the grass roots of the discipline were intentionally poisoned.

To sit and claim that anyone can shoot a pistol over here is outright wrong. As long as shooters continue coming out with such nonsense, whatever the motivation, we'll never see any change for the better.

I know people who do. I could go buy a Morini or Pardini (assuming I could find one) or any other type of free pistol tomorrow. You may want to call it a carbine but the IOC or Commonwealth Games Federation (and the Home office and Police) would probably disagree with you and as long as I can shoot it with one hand (as the above pistols are designed for) could compete in the 50 free pistol events. It would go on my FAC as an LBP - P standing for pistol.

I was shooting along side some 50m pistol shooters this weekend. They were practising the 50m Pistol discipline as shot at the Olympics in 2012 and as will be shot at the Commonwealth games this year.

NFrancis is not anti-gun - he has his opinions which may not agree with yours or some others but threatening him like this really isn't on.

I do not want a handgun but I always do sign these petitions however where do they really get us? I wish they did work but I do get where he is coming from.

Posting a link to the web site was a bit off, but other than that he's just just giving his opinion on the subject, which whether anyone agree with it or not is still relevant to the topic...

...I see people 'negatively hijacking' topics regularly...I've lost count of how many negative comments have been made about the NRA and Bisley by some folk when others have being trying to be constructive...
