Question on moderators and legality

#1 Post by zzr1100 »

I've got a .22rf with a SAK moderator (on my certificate obviously) I also have a pcp air rifle in .22 with a parker hale mod ..
The SAK is FAR more effective than the parker hale ... Am I allowed to put the SAK on the air rifle when I'm using it, or does it have to stay on the rimmy ?

I'd have thought NOT

My understanding is that for a S.1 gun, the moderator takes on the status of the gun it is fitted to.
A NAMED moderator on a S.1 gun is therefore on FAC, plus will be so conditioned for use on one/several of the FAC guns.

An airgun mod., even though identical, can be used on any airgun. EVEN if that airgun mod., is a make more normally associated with FAC rimfires.

As the SAK is named/listed on the FAC - I'd have said that you'd not be able to use it on the airgun (though an airgun that was also S.1 & on FAC would be fine) as it is a S.1 item

The SAK won't BE listed on the FAC. It will simply be shown as "No name" or something similar, so it would be impossible to prove anything.

I can think of no legal reason why you cannot fit an S1 suppressor on an air rifle, it is licensed as a separate item. Obviously you should not fit an air rifle suppressor to an S1 firearm.

Did you READ the wording on the original post?

I have NEVER seen a condition dictating what firearm a listed moderator can be used on.

Only that the fac holder is permitted to possess and use the moderator.

So, yes, it can be used on whatever you like.

Surely the moderator is the controlled item here & as long as it's on your ticket you can use it on any rifle of the same calibre you legally own?

The fact that the air rifle is not a S1 would be irrelevant?

Both rifles are .22 after all.

any????

Edit: Sorry Breacher, was typing whilst you posted.

The OP only states the mod is on his FAC, not named.

I am sure it is legal to use it on either.

I suppose another consideration might be whether the moderator has any conditions on its use (as an item on the FAC) that the (presumably non-FAC) air-rifle doesn't. (For example, if the FAC items were for target shooting but the OP intended to use the air-rifle for shooting bunnies.)
