Remington PSS .308 accuracy
Three people in the space of a week have spoken to me about the accuracy of their Remington 700 .308 PSS and all three have reported around 0,5MOA or better at 200 yards with an assortment of ammunition. This group was shot with 185 Scenars built for a different rifle and just used as an impromptu test at the firing point (Take great care if you ever try such a thing!)
I find it heart warming to hear of such accuracy from what is considered to be 'just' a factory rifle with a 26" barrel. An F/TR rifle by definition it is not however in the spirit of shooting could this be where the future lies, a factory rifle off a factory bipod with reasonable glass shot at 5-600 yards? I am sure there are many UK club shooters with the standard Rem700/Leupold/Harris setup having bags of fun every weekend and seeing some exceptional results from really quite modest rifles.
Anyone else noticing this at club level?

Now try it with a Hawke scope and see how it does for those of us who can't afford more on a scope than several rifles ;-)

I had one about 7 years ago it was a fantastic shooter out of the box, tinkered with it over a year or so finally it ended up in an AICS still a great rifle which I sold to another member of our club, he still has it, he has a ZOS scope on it and came a very close second to me at a 1000yd shoot at Bisley.Demonic69 wrote:Now try it with a Hawke scope and see how it does for those of us who can't afford more on a scope than several rifles ;-)

Another out of the box and much under rated rifle is the Winchester Stealth my boy has one with a Hawke sidewinder scope anyway it will shoot 1/2 moa all day, the only downside with it is the availability of aftermarket bolt on goodies but he is more than happy with it.

Re: Remington PSS .308 accuracy
I've always had great results from my Remington rifles.
600 Mohawk in .222 shoots 1 MOA groups with Norma factory ammo.
700 Mountain rifle in 30-06 with a pencil thin barrel shot 1 MOA with Remington Soft point. Even when the barrel was burning hot.
700 ADL in 300 WM shot 0.5 MOA with Remington soft point. I replaced the factory stock on this one with a McMillan HTG, but it wasn't bedded.
700 LTR in .308 shoots 0.5 MOA with Norma Oryx factory ammo.
I think Remington is great value for money. One is not guaranteed accuracy, but they generally shoot well from what I've heard and experienced myself.

I had a 700 PSS...... sold it to 20series for far too little money...... I even "delievered" it to Bisley for him!!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I got it shooting with a bit of fiddling, I wish id left it alone and not rebarreled it
Out to 800yards it would hold a standard vbull all day long with 46gn of Varget and a 175smk

I have one, mine was shortened to 20" so I got it fairly cheap. Shoots really well, but I've never used it past 600 yard.
