So are there ANY cheap AR parts in the UK?

#1 Post by Demonic69 »

I've been looking around for a handgaurd/quad rail and collapsible stock for the VTR.
It seems that anything AR15 related fetches a massive premium in the UK.
Stocks, $30 in the US, £60-70 minimum here. Same for handguards!
I don't want to double the price of gun just by adding tart-parts :D
So, anywhere selling reasonably-priced AR bits without going totally airsoft (which I don't mind really, just harder to spec up due to differences in fittings).

Cheers

In short, no. To bring parts from the US, especially stuff for an AR, is a very expensive business for importers due to the licensing required, particularly Stateside.

Your options are limited if you're coming from a price point. Second hand parts on forums or even ebay if someone is prepared to send outside the US. But the cost of shipping has now become ridiculous.

Have a look at Brownells. They will tell you which parts have restrictions or require licences so you can cherry pick.

To get the best value, you're going to have to do it yourself. A shop/ business are going to want paying for their time and money already expended in bringing the stuff in.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

It's worth bearing in mind that Magpul PTS parts are largely the same construction/materials as so-called 'real steel' accessories; just that Magpul don't warranty them for firearms use.

I have an airsoft M4 RIS rail on my .22 upper. Fits just fine, does the job, cosmetic differences are negligible and it was cheap (ish) as chips compared to a Knights one. I wouldn't scrimp for full bore though; I have them all tricked out (at $$$s)!

Yes, UK stockists are a rip-off. Brownells, as mentioned are good. MidwayUK as a last resort. Try also Roy at:

Really good service and decent prices. Ships to UK no problem (even the stuff that US dealers have heart attacks over).

Cheers guys, plenty to think about.
Will have a look around Brownells, though it's a shame Cheaper Than Dirt don't ship outside the US. Might have to consider a consolidated shipping service.
762, your idea of cheap and mine are quite different :D £120 for Magpul is still 3 times more than it should be ;)
Might end up going airsoft-y as it's only a little .22.

Thanks

I tend to use FAB Defense bits from UKMCPro based in Portsmouth as it as good as Magpul .

Also consider UTG bits

Salut,

Depending of the type of parts you are after, I've been looking around for a handgaurd/quad rail and collapsible stock Ebay can be your friend if you know what you are after and confident to purchase on the basis of a photo.. A lot of sellers will ship Magpul accessories to the UK but also rails, sights, optics etc... I got some Knight Armament rails for a fraction of the UK px.

Cheers zil, ginger was chatting to me about FAB and other Israeli stuff too. Looks good but still a bit pricey.
How does the knight stuff fit Froggy? The VTR has a threaded section that would accept an AR barrel nut or delta ring or a large thread the same as some plain forends.

I don't read my own signature!

Hi Zilberbak,

yeah I am a FAB & CAA user, I purchased my FAB rails from NWCustomparts, and my CAA stuff directly from them, but now ........ the joys of Amazon.co.uk allow us to just purchase both FAB Defense and CAA bits directly from Amazon, no import :)

Rock solid :good:
There is one piece of metal, only needed if your AR is equiped with the M203 grenade launcher, that you'll need to remove. 10 second job with an alen key.

I have bought 2 KAC RAS on ebay. One for my SDI 223 and the other for my CMMG to have an identical set up. The KAC RAS Mdl is GI so it is widely available in the US and with patience you should find a seller happy to post it to you. Not all do. Also study the photos well not to end up with an airsoft copy...
