Eley .22 ammo

#1 Post by Dave 101 »

I have just seen an Eley 2014 calendar which displays the various .22 ammo , I noticed the Eley Team [ blue box ] is no longer listed , Tennex has become a red box and the were 2 black boxes one of which was called Edge . Does any one know what the equivalent to Team is ?

Thanks Dave

As far as I know Tenex has always been in red boxes/lids, looking at the website I would think that Edge will be Team rebranded, you could contact them directly to clarify.

Personally when I was competing in small-bore I swapped from Eley to RWS having found their ammo to be far more consistent from batch to batch.

Another option is Lapua CentreX

Thanks 20
Perhaps my memory is wrong I thought years ago Tennex was in a black box .
According to Eley web site Edge is a newly designed round based on Tennex which is totally different to Team .
OSP sounds like the nearest to Team .

To my knowledge, Tenex has been in a red box since the 1960s---how far back it goes beyond that I don't know. Black box is Match. I am a few years out of date, but Match used to be Tenex production which did not quite make it when the batch was sample tested. I once spent an enjoyable hour with the late Bert Brookes on the old Eley customer range, running various makes of ammo through several barrels. RWS never made the Tenex standard, some batches of Lapua did. In my 100 + year old Greener Miniature Club rifle, the difference between Tenex and Rifle Club was very small--certainly of no significance to an off-hand shooter. I never never joined the belly-flopper brigade, being an ex-pistol shooter and have used Rifle Club ever since.

Tbf isn't most eley in black boxes with different coloured labels?

I was always lead to believe that Match was Tenex that didn't meet various consistency specifications and Team was similar but even further down the scale. Incidently back when I was shooting smallbore several times a week I found Team to group very well, though it would vary from batch to batch.
