6.5*51 arisaka jap

#1 Post by shotgun sam »

Can someone do a Quickload calculation for ppu 6.5*51 arisaka jap with 139 grain ppu bullet and using vectan 3000 powder.

I was also told that vectan 3000 is similar to r12 powder can anyone confirm that.

Thanks

Sam

My version of QL does not list TU3000 and RL12 is way too quick by the look of it. Apparently Arisaka ammunition was running at about the 2500fps mark so I would opt for N150 or even N160.

As an example 36 grains of N160 gives around 2350fps at 39,100psi so a reasonable load pressure wise even though it is low on MV. Looking at QL even H4831SC fails to get to 2500fps safely.

My burn rate chart rates V3000 at 122 and Rel12 at 139.

From my own personal experience, I have found 29.0gn of V3000 behind a 139gn FMJFB bullet, to be the most consistent load with this powder. It produced 5" groups at 100m and POI was 12" above POA. I have gone as high as 32.0gn, but groups became erratic.

The best loads I have produced for this round was with 35.0gn of Rel15 with the same bullet, It gave me 4" groups at 100m POI 12" above POA and an average M/V of 2379 fps.
