I served from 1974 - 1996 in the Canadian Army, and 1996 - 2014 in the New Zealand Army.

Oh okay, good for you mate. Fella who was my best mate in the mob now lives in Auckland. Been over to visit him a couple of times and have to say that NZ is an awesome place. We still keep in touch via Skype. Well good luck to you mate, you've put in your time and no doubt about that.

My service number was 8 digits long. They used to assist us in remembering it with helpful push ups, all the time shouting in a foreign language.

The ones to have are Canadian wings as they were effectively disbanded after Somalia in the 90's so are very rare. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Airborne_Regiment

Also we can't have a thread mentioning the New Zealand army without mentioning Willie Apiata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Apiata

The Canadian Airborne regiment was indeed disbanded after Somalia. What the CF did was go back to the way things were before the formation of the Airborne Regiment in 1968. Every infantry battalion had a 'jump' (parachute) company. So parachute training continues.
