Looks like an Ak action with hideous wood added.
I agree, but I'd assume original Galil furniture could be fitted and is fairly easy to source.

Well....quite simply gas.....it unsticks the case from the chamber, remember that at the point of detonation two forces come into play, rear and lateral, not all the pressure is against the bolt, a good proportion is sent sideways and effectively pins the case to the walls of the chamber.

With straight pulls, rotating bolts (Garand/M14, AR15 etc) are better at "unsticking" the case than tilting bolts (fal's, etc) (in general, not always though)

They just seem to provide better primary extraction on average.

I have used a friends SP Garand, super rifle to shoot, really wonderful thing. (see pic of a very happy me firing it!) It was manufactured from scratch about 10 years back, I won't go into any more detail without the owners permission though.
As you say HV, on the Garand/M14 straight pulls, once the bolt has rotated out of lock, the operating handle pulls back approximately 0.25 inches before it fully engages with the locking lugs on the bolt and starts to pull that and the cartridge back. That short movement provides a bit of inertia to the cartridge extraction.

With a semi auto version, the initial pressure on the piston knocks the operating rod back, cams the bolt to the unlocked position and starts to drive the bolt back. The pressure drops off rapidly but not before it provides enough inertia to start the extraction cycle. I think that by the time the case has become unstuck and starts coming backwards, the pressures have dropped back to normal, if they didn't, you'd be looking at singed eyebrows and a wall of burning gases coming out of the chamber.

From what I remember of the Israeli rifle, I thought it was based on the AK design. Probably why Snayperskaya is interested in one.

Your mates Garand looks nice, wish I had one......

The Galil is based on the AK but the receiver is slightly different, Galil furniture will fit an AK but it would not be the same as a 'proper' Galil.

Early Galils were built using Valmet receivers and M16 barrels.

Correct, based on the RK62 which itself was based on a Polish licensed AK

Am I right in thinking the way the bolt works on a Garand/M14 makes them particularly suited for straight pull.
Im sure I heard somewhere that primary extraction would be a problem with a straight pull Garand, I could be wrong.
My M14 is OK with the right ammo :shakeshout: ; my colleague's Garand also seems to work OK!
