New forms used, new variations granted. What to buy?

#1 Post by meles meles »

Well oomans, we've received a shiny new FAC back today from Mr Plod. Our FEO visited us on 2 Jan to check out the sett security and now, 10 days later, we have our ticket refreshed. We used the new forms for the first time, and have a new look certificate with plenty of spaces on it for rifle and ammunition purchases to be logged - far better than the old style ! Our ammunition allowances have been increased too.

To add to the sett arsenal, we have been granted:

Rifle, 7 mm
Rifle, 7.62 mm
Rifle 9 mm + moderator
Rifle, .44" + moderator
Shotgun, 12 bore, + slugs

What do you think we should purchase, oomans?

We should have mentioned we have a 9mm Armalon being held for us to inspect prior to purchase. It's the remainder of the slots we're looking to fill...

What's this hatstand thing ?

Let's take this variation by variation, oomans.

The 7.62 slot gives us the options of x39, x51 and x54R. We have plenty of 7.62x51 rifles, and ovenpaa is working on a P14 project for us at the moment that will probably take care of our needs in that direction for some while. Our thinking is to dedicate this slot to something in x54R: we have discussed many times here our view that the 7.62x54R is under-rated (except by the Finns) and so we feel a project to develop a TKIV 85 type rifle might be in order.

We selected a 7mm slot after discussions with learned oomans on these 'ere fora: it seems ideal for good accuracy out to 1000 mards. We don't shoot that far often, but it seems a useful capability to develop. There appear to be plenty of 7mm cartridges around to choose from. Ideally we would like something nice and flat shooting, with readily available ammo, hopefully not expensive ammo.

The .44 slot seems ideal for either an underlever or a Ruger bolt action, ideally in stainless steel. Something good and hefty for popping piggies at medium to close range perhaps?

The shotgun we're open minded about. A quick peek through GunMart shows some nice shotguns by Weatherby, Revo and Benelli.

We think the 7.62x54R would be more accurate in a bolt action rifle, snayperskaya.

Do you want X number of rounds through the same hole accuracy or Farmer Giles's swede off his shoulders at 800m accuracy?.

Oh we'd settle for Farmer Giles losing his turnip at 800m, but thought that was definitely the province of a TKIV85 rather than a Dragqueen...
