#1 Post by polemass »

hi all-so,no licence required for possession of deactivated guns but how it works in real world if I will bring a gun from Germany with certificate in English?Do I have to tell Customs,send it to proof house or just do nothing?have a look on www.zib-militaria.de and maybe you will find something too-thanks,jb

From what I can gather zib won't ship deactivated firearms to the UK

Edit....from their website;

Is the deactivation done to UK specification?
If not then technically you may end up attempting to bring on a Section 5 gun.
...not an exercise likely to end well

You didn't say that in your original post, just that you were to order a deac in from Germany.If they won't ship to the UK there is obviously a reason.
I believe German deacs arent done to the same spec as UK deacs and and will usually field strip,cock and dryfire.

Just looked at a Polish AKMS on their site, its still got a full auto trigger group and a full auto bolt carrier with the gas piston still attached!!!......basically everything required to create a select fire Ak!.I would be a bit concerned about having one of these sent through the post.

from description German deactivation sounds pretty devastating-6 holes in barell for example-the rest also like cutted and welded,no dry fire me think-today found one gun on gunstar.co.uk listed with this specs but price tag multiplied by 3...???!!!so the question is more about procedure-if someone done it-is it non event or more like waking the dragon...if I can have it for 125£ why pay to someone 375£?

Looking at the AKMS pics again it looks as though the auto sear is welded to the hammer so it won't dry fire.The deac spec looks pretty comprehensive but I wouldn't like to say whether Customs would let it through or not.I was asked a few questions about a Soviet night vision scope I was sent from Finland.

If travelling by ferry deactivated guns need to be declared and checked by customs to ensure that they meet uk spec.

Had it done several times when travelling to/from Normandy over the last 25 years or so.

As an admin. exercise it's easier travelling by ferry with a live firearm held on a European firearms passport.
