Will 6.5x47 chamber in to a .308?
I have a cunning plan to purchase both a .308 and 6.5x47 later in the year. This will be the first time I will be running two rifle calibres at the same time and I am concerned that at some point I may get my ammunition mixed up and try to load the wrong ammunition in the wrong chamber. Will either chamber in the other and if so will it have disastrous results?

I would say yes but your accuracy might be slightly off!
Re: Will 6.5x47 chamber in to a .308?
The 6,5x47 will fit in the .308 chamber however the .308 will not fit fully into the 6,5x47 chamber.

In theory you can fire the 6,5x47 in the .308 the result would be a very expensive Lapua case fire formed to a rather short .308 - by this I mean you would end up with a couple of mm of neck. As far as the bullet is concerned, do not expect sub MOA accuracy! Other than that there should be no damage.
I seriously doubt you would be able close the bolt on a .308 chambered in a 6,5x47 even with the aid of a large sledgehammer however if you were to manage this then pulling the trigger would be a bad move.

I'm just bouncing around the internet researching length and twist for the 6.5x47.
it appears that the Lapua brass is small rifle primer only, so that will be a big visual indicator when the brass is in the box ready to go. It will also help whilst at the reloading stage as everything will have to be changed over.
Interesting that many shooters decide on a projectile weight first and then ask which twist and kength.

6,5x47 would need a 1:8 twist which will cover a range of bullets. Personally I mostly shoot the 123 grain Scenar however you could also use the 130 Berger, 136 type L Scenar, 139 Scenar and 140 Berger or even the SMK's. Also the 130 JLK works well for some people.
The Lapua .308 Palma case is also small primer...

I will think about the pros and cons of small primer case .308 another day!
What length of barrel did you have the AI rebarreled in?
I see people are having 1.8 and 1.9 twists.

I fitted a 26" Border to my AI to enable me to use the same drag bag and keep the balance.

6.5x47 is an excellent round.
.308 is not really that kewl for target shooting unless one wants the ability to shoot surplus. Just my opinion... tongueout
