My bolts are kept in another safe separate to the rifles but as Dromia said when you have a vast collection I can imagine all kinds of fun!

The FLO that visited me suggested keeping them separate at all feasible times, in the safe, in the car etc.
Seems fairly sensible and easy enough to implement, unless you do forget a bolt!
I'll keep mine with the ammo I'd be using next, hopefully stopping any wasted range trips :-)

I keep mine with the ammunition. But in the past I am guilty of turning up at the range with out the bolt or even the bolt and magazine.

I did discover once, much to my embarrassment that a combination of oily rag and bolt case will act as a follower in lieu of a missing magazine on an Accuracy International.

I leave bolt (and mag) in the rifle. If you've managed to break into my cabinet, then doing the ammo safe as well probably won't bother you too much.

Though it's not a requirement, or FEO asked us to keep them separate...she has been very reasonable with our requests over the years so we like to keep her happy...

We have two cabinets with the rifles and bolts separated between the two, and due to running out of room, now have a separate ammo safe to - but it's not a difficult checklist to do before loading the car...rifle/s, correct bolt/s, correct ammo...

...though will confess to forgetting many other things...chairs, lunch, strip clips etc. etc. etc....

I used to do a fair bit of archery, picked a mate up, went to the competition to find he had brought his arrows ... But no bow !!

Another factor is, as your collection grows and you get a semi .22lr, semi shotgun etc are you still going to go to the hassle of taking the guns apart to remove the bolts? Easy enough on a bolt action rifle but time consuming on many other platforms.

Personaly I do not,

.22rf semi auto/.357 under lever/.310 martini action/223/7.62 straight pulls put away complete FEO said too much hassle to take apart and he knows best.
All other bolt action rifles we have the bolts stored separately with some the tension is released from the firing pin spring.

I keep my bolt action bolts in the ammunition store but only because it gives you more space in the gun cab. The first time that you scratch a gun you'll remove them too! Just keep the bolts right next to the calibre of ammunition to which it relates, that way when you get ammo you'll see the bolt.

I'll hold my hand up and admit to taking the SLR to the range without a mag before.
