You've had the opposite problem to most. For the last 2 years, all I've heard and experienced is that Hampshire have been bloody awful. However they have really upped their game recently according to a few reports.

In my experience, calling repeatedly gets a better response.

I had a problem with my youngest son's first FAC, they left off the conditions that allow him to shoot section 1 shotguns and slug, I just rang Surrey Firearms, they said sorry and just sent the replacement, maybe worth just ringing them rather than send it back again.

Warwickshire, who have allus* given us superb service, recently merged their firearms licensing functions with a couple of other local forces. Now, instead of competent, firm but fair, FEOs who know what they are doing and could turn around a variation in 10 working days (!!!!) we have to suffer the vagaries of eejit Brummopithocenes who seemingly have little experience of firearms beyond shooting each other and leaving behind 5 H&K 9mm carbines at McDonalds and don't even know how to pawdle** a gun safely. We complained to the Chief Plod of Warwickshire about the deterioration in service and the very next day received a visit from our old FEO and an assurance that things will quickly be sorted. Apparently the Chief Plod of Warwickshire isn't impressed about the decline in service either.

Moral of the story: Demand the service you're paying*** for !

The Met managed to leave the standard target shooting conditions off my FAC once ("so you're telling me that as I have no restrictive conditions on using my firearms I can shoot anywhere I damn well like?"). As well as getting my house number wrong - despite having written it correctly on the envelope.

Unfortunately I had to send it back in to get the address sorted out - clearly somebody realised what they'd done because they were back when it returned.

Put a call in to Hampshire Licensing this morning. Although they were apologetic, aside from me driving to Winchester and personally handing it to them, I still have to send it back and wait for them to correct it. No great surprise there though.

I expressed my frustration at having to spend time and money correcting their errors and suggested that they might add a credit to my file for the cost of a future variation. After all, it's a service that I'm paying for and I'd expect any other organisation who screwed up like this to take care of me in some way. By the sounds of it, something like that would have be to personally signed off by the Queen, so although it's noted and will be considered, I don't hold out much hope.

As I mentioned, Hampshire have always been very good in the past, so I'm not going to sweat it too much. Unless it comes back wrong again....
