Re: Security question
Keeping the bolt separately from the rifle makes sense, ooman.

If you do, someday, sooner or later you will go shooting without it.

Re: Security question
No requirement to and as mentioned, you will forget it one day, guaranteed!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Security question
Unless you keep it separate with your ammunition which is what we do.

Re: Security question
All of our bolts are in a separate safe to the rifles. We have a check list before we leave the house.
Certificates/club card/SCC etc, we have all of our cards in an A5 wallet.
Bolts/mags (if you use one).
Cans. Most clubs have a spare set, we always carry two extra in the car.
Ammo.
There are other things we ask eachother. However those are the most important ones, without them you can't shoot.
A mat and all the other little bits and pieces can be substituted or do without.
However to make life easy we have a sportsbag with everything in...just grab it and go.
We all do things differently, some have a built in mat with the rifle slip (me), some separate (him).
I do not use a magazine, he does.
To keep the bolts separate to the rifles, security of course, if someone breaks in they have to work harder.

Re: Security question
I used to when I had cabinets, I would keep the bolts in the top boxes in cabinets that held different rifles so that even if the cabinet was removed then the bolts wouldn't fit the rifles within. However once I had more than 40 rifles on my FAC it became a management task too far.
Especially with multiple B/A 303's, 6.5s, 8mms etc in the collection, it wasn't just a case of forgetting the bolts but the wrong bolts could be easily picked up, mismatched and it just became a recipe for disaster.
I then progressed to a secure gun room, monitored alarm etc and the bolts were kept with the rifles.
