I'd like to call on the experienced re loaders, as to what make dies I should buy to reload .223 Rem for a bolt gun. I have only ever re loaded for the Hornet and used Lee dies. Although happy with these I have never used any other make.
I'll be using a Howa 1500 sporter for vermin control and will probably load a 50gn vmax or blitzking onto fire formed brass, but have not decided on the powder yet.
Although Lee dies are very good value, I don't mind spending more if the quality of the final product is more noticeable.
I have been using a Lee single press, but was thinking of swapping that out as well, and again I welcome any suggestions.
Many thanks in advance

Re: What make dies should I buy?
I'd get a set of the Lee Deluxe dies with the neck sizing collet die as well as the FL die.
I might consider adding an Hornady bullet seating die but see how you get on with Lees offering for your applications.
There are no bad die sets out there just some are more suited to certain applications than others, the Lee neck sizing collet dies is one of their best pieces of kit just be prepared to give hem a bit of fettling to start with. The Fl die is handy for when you need to move the shoulder back, or want make easy chambering ammunition for the field.

My preference is Forster for the vast majority of applications. The Ultra micrometer seater is superb value.

Stick with Lee and you will be well served. The money saved will then allow you to buy some decent cases.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Lee all day.
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.
Re: What make dies should I buy?
It does appear that although Lee dies use softer materials, they still hold their own against more expensive brands.
Thanks for the PM Spud, I may be able to access it soon if I don't get knocked back again.......spud wrote:you have a pm
