Calibre/Chamber Rules

I'm under West Mercia and my rifles have the calibre and cartridge size, I was led to believe 7.62/.308 refered to a 7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester chambering and other 7.62 rounds ie 7.62x39 were treated/specified differently.

is it really THAT much hassle getting the entry changed for free? It could be a carry on if you're buying it at a gun show miles from home i suppose, but if its just in a local shop or private, just pay for it and put the non-variation, variation in

No, and I expect that's what I'd have to do, praying it didn't take months to sort. If the variation system was simple and quick that would be great.
I'm assuming you'd just pay for the rifle and collect it once the variation was in.
But, if yours says 7.62/.308 and you went and bought an AKMS or Mosin, what COULD they do is the question?

No, and I expect that's what I'd have to do, praying it didn't take months to sort. If the variation system was simple and quick that would be great.

I assume the worst penalty would be you being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and the RFD getting his licence revoked

The HO say they are supposed to license by calibre, but most (certainly mine) seem to also be chamber specific.

This is silly on several counts.

Forgetting the illegal user (in which case none of this matters but it is who the pedantry it aimed at) if they just said 7.62/.308 or even a .30 cal slot, it would make their and our lives easier come variation time.

We send in details when we sell or buy anyway so they could get the details from that.

Also, as my FEO pointed out, by and large most .30 cal holes are lethal....so what's the biggie?

Actually I have just got my FAC back with a collectors slot....the letter that came with it may as well have been in Swahili.

All it needed to say was

You can have 550 of anything between very very small to 19.2mm that don't explode/catch fire and is inert.

see, an essay where 1 sentence would have done.

No mention whether I need to add every (licensable) bullet I acquire to my FAC, and no mention as to whether I need to lock said bullets up....not that I will, they are inert tesnews

If its inert ammunition why do they say you can have 550?, surely if its inert you can have as many as you want or am I missing something.
