I did think of that but its getting hold of Galil parts, plus the Galil receiver is a different shape forward of the mag well.

Halodin.....I think the problem is extracting the original .30 round the Garand was chambered in,not a 7.62 NATO round. In Russia you can buy a semi auto Izhmash Tigr (civilian version of the Dragunov) in .30-06 but they are reluctant to offer a straight pull version in that calibre as apparently its a pig to extract which isn't a problem with a functioning gas blowback system that the semi auto version possesses.

What does the gas blow-back offer that yanking the whole assembly manually doesn't?

Yep, but then you'd end-up with a tarted-up AK, not a Galil and it would not be kosher you schmuck, but then again I guess you could shot it on shabbat !!

Well....quite simply gas.....it unsticks the case from the chamber, remember that at the point of detonation two forces come into play, rear and lateral, not all the pressure is against the bolt, a good proportion is sent sideways and effectively pins the case to the walls of the chamber.

With straight pulls, rotating bolts (Garand/M14, AR15 etc) are better at "unsticking" the case than tilting bolts (fal's, etc) (in general, not always though)

They just seem to provide better primary extraction on average.

I have used a friends SP Garand, super rifle to shoot, really wonderful thing. (see pic of a very happy me firing it!) It was manufactured from scratch about 10 years back, I won't go into any more detail without the owners permission though.

I see, so as the gas is entering and moving the blow back system rearward there is still rear force on the case helping to move it out of the chamber ready to extract, whereas on a straight pull the bolt is still flush with the rear of the case while all pressures are expended.
Thanks for the explanation :-)

Would the Vektor H5 be section 5 in the UK, being a pump (even though the mechanism I'd really just a straight pull)

Pump Action C/F rifles would be S5 AFAIK.

It would seem the Vektor was available in straight pull

Looks like an Ak action with hideous wood added.
