Police are hunting a sick thug who shot a cow in the neck with crossbow in a savage attack.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident after the animal was found lying in a field near Church Farm in Finchampstead.

The animal, which has a calf, is now recovering from the injuries after the bow was removed.

PC Jennifer Savazzi said: ..."I am appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact Thames Valley Police.
..."The animal has had the bow removed and is currently recovering from its injuries."
A couple of obvious errors!!
...aside from the obvious one (WHERE was the bow inserted?) WHO says that is a bolt in the photo & not an arrow?
Looks a little on the long side for a bolt, though not always easy to tell the length of things from photos (hence the popularity of online dating these days)

Hope they catch the t*@t that did this to a harmless domestic animal

Not sure if the article says more about British journalism or TVP

Definitely a crossbow bolt (or quarrel if you like) - looks like the cheap Armex ones. I'll have a guess and say it's one of their 17 inch bolts. I've got some of their 14 inch bolts and they're OK. Their main plus point is that they are cheap, especially as even from my 120lb crossbow they'll punch through the straw targets at 25m.

Given the lack of penetration, it looks like a long range shot. The bend in the bolt could also indicate a ricochet or underspined for the crossbow, but those Armex bolts are soft, so it could have just as easily have bent after striking bone.

Whatever the case, I hope they catch the **** as well.

Wonderful journalism - and when caught they should insert the actual bow up his / her rectum, sideways!

Badger, Mush as I agree, "Bernie the QUARREL" would not have sounded the same.

OK, I'm ignorant, that looks to me like an arrow. What is it that distinguishes it as a crossbow projectile rather than a longbow one?

If 'twere from a long, or more correctly, warbow, 'twould be a cloth yard long, iron tipped, goose fletched, poplar or birch shafted wound bee...

Shorter with a different nock (for the string ;) ) -usually no longer than 20 inches in length - most arrows are between 26-30* inches in length. Also has anywhere between 2 to 4 four vanes/feathers/fletches rather than the standard 3 on an arrow.

*To keep the Badger happy - or up to a clothyard in length, which is 36 or 37 inches long.

Methinks all this olde worlde measurement thing should make a comeback.

Let's bring back Chains (22 yards), furlongs (10 chains) Miles (8 furlongs) gills (4 to a pint) quarts (2 pints), poles, perchs, stones (14lbs) hundredweights (Cwt or 8 stones) and proper TONS (20cwt or 2260lbs), not the shortassed metric tonne.

And beer in the pub should come in firkins and hogsheads only, not 800ml glasses s or 330cl bottles
