best place for milsurp in the South?

#1 Post by paulbradley »

I'm down on the South coast. Can anyone reccomend a good (cheap) supplier of milsurp? Also are there any brands or eras that I should seek out or avoid? Some have mentioned certain milsurp as being corrosive..

Am I correct in assuming that it is ammunition rather than firearms that you are seeking?

If its ammo there isnt much milsurp around apart from the "Russian" calibers.
Any local dealer should be able to get ammo in from any wholesaler such as Hannams.
What ammo are you looking for?
The chances of getting corrosive ammo is pretty slim nowadays.
The only place I can think of,on the south coast,is Portsmouth Gun Centre.
Ammozone at the Trafalgar last weekend would have been worth a look.

Hi Paul,
If you need 5.56 then ITL in Chertsey stock RG which is £39 per 100, and the NRA stock GGG which is slightly more expensive. ITL also have piles of cheap cold war era Russian sourced 7.62x39 & 7.62x54 which is all corrosive but don't let that put you off as it shoots fine and cleans up in seconds. The 50's dated 8mm ammo that's doing the rounds (i.e. from Ammo-Zone) is cheap but that's corrosive too.

Don't be put off by corrosive ammo, just clean thoroughly and its fine.I shoot x39 and x54r and treat it all as corrosive to be on the safe side and have had no problems, especially with chrome lined barrels. It is only the primers that contain the corrosive element.

Richard (The Devises Gunsmith) often has ggg in 7.62 & 5.56.

HPS in Gloucester carries barnul steelcase ammo which is pretty cheap.

I guess neither of these are close enough for you.

Probably only worth it if your in the area, GT shooting in Coulsdon have had ggg in, I would give him a bell before heading up there. Its a good shop to visit if your on the M25, took me about 15 minutes to get there from the motorway. Had some nice bits in there including quiet a few LBRs, and a selection of Enfield.

Last lot I got was from the Phoenix arms fair, think it was £80-100 for 200.
