Standard versus National Match FLS dies

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I need to full length size some .308 brass over the weekend and I must admit this is not a normal practice for me as I am a habitual neck sizer only with just the occasional full length size through an ancient Lee die. I hauled the die out today and realised it was showing its age, even with a careful clean and polish of the internals I was not convinced so I now have a shiny new Forster FLS die however it is a National Match so in theory the shoulders will be set back by .003" or thereabouts.

Does anyone here have a preference for National Match over Standard sizing dies? This is how they are explained by Forster with Small Base dies thrown in for good measure.

Hi ovenpaa

I use the redding competition set and that has a FL body die so I can mess with the neck sperately. I just take the expander ball / decapper out of the neck die. So I can then just squeese the neck gently one way. I mostly only use this for brass not shot in my chamber, like you I mostly neck size only.
