Some larger catridges

We were at Kynamco today for some testing and I picked these up for Maggot who is a collector.

Left to right (I think!):

.308 for reference
9.3x62
400 Purdy
500 Nitro Express
500/450 Nitro Express
505 Gibbs
600/577 REWA

I would hate to be something on the wrong end of any of these however it did open my eyes to a whole new world of cartridges and reloading.

hmmm - how many grains is the projectile on the right? looks to be getting-on for 500.

From memory 750 grains and a quick check with the kitchen scales says 48 grams which would be about right.

Last time I was down there I shot off a couple of 600 Nitro Express rounds.

All I can say a bout the experience is Phwoarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Just found this bit of info on the 600/577 REWA.

"Well the 577REWA is a necked down .600NE. The bullet weight is 750 grains - the same as the .577NE 3". It is believed that the velocity of the orginal loading with 110 grains of cordite was 100 fps higher than the regular .577NE 3", which means the .577REWA is propelling the bullet of 750grains at 2150 fps.

Capacity vice the .577REWA case is on par with the .577 Tyrannosaur case ( both Horneber made, 216grain water capacity ), so you can expect to also reach 2400 fps without to many problems. I doubt that the Woodleight bullets ( soft point ) will hold up into game at that speed, so I keep the velocity at 2150 fps. This is reached with 165 grains of Hodgdon H4831 powder."

I was tempted to get a .700 Nitro Express however even a once fired case is eye wateringly expensive. We talked about general reloading for a few minutes with me on the metallic side of things and the Viking on the processes they use for powder throwing and the .700 cropped up, I was quite amazed when they told me they use N150, quicker than I expected for a 1000 grain projectile.

The Kynamco tunnel range can be hired by the hour, gives a true 100m windless zero opportunity with everything you could need, set in superb grounds with helpful staff, this was not the first time we have used the range and certainly will not be the last. Well recommended.

I will need to get some bigger boxes!!!

Now if anyone can get any of the very small H&K stuff (MP7...4.something mm) and AK74 ammo, I would be deeply chuffed.
