Bullet mould manfacturer needed

#1 Post by ukrifleman »

Can anyone provide me with the contact details of a UK based bullet mould manufacturer, who would produce a custom mould for 6.5x52 Carcano?
Lee are not taking any custom orders until 2014.
Thanks in anticipation.

Er, ok, I'll play....

WHY UK based??

Paging DROMIA, paging DROMIA

IF you look on the Cast Boolits Forum you will see that one of the main bullet mold makers that supplies group buys is based in Europe...forget where, one of the czech or slovakia type states. Does very nice work too.

Dromia will keep you right on such matters....

Don't have details of a UK maker, wish I had, however Mountain Moulds in the US should give you what you need.

Mihec of MP moulds is who you are referring to I suspect Jon, he does make fine moulds but only works to group buys usually and is months if not years behind so even if he was to take a design on board the wait time could be years.

I wouldn't touch a Lee "bespoke" mould again even for a lottery win.

MP moulds need an order for 20 moulds, just asked a couple of weeks back.
Another US maker is Accurate Moulds.
I had one from him and its exactly to spec and well made.

Unfortunately Accurate will not meet the needs of the poster as Tom can only do down to 30 calibre, which is why I didn't recommend him in this instance, also he can't do round nose or spire points all his bullets have a flat nose. He has cut a few moulds for me and is also of excellent quality but no appropriate in this case.

Ukrifleman, do you have a picture of the bullet you want to cast? Given shrinkage and form I should imagine they are a nightmare to machine until you know what you are doing.

You could probably machine a mould if you had the right tooling but getting the right dimensions to drop the boolit at the correct size would be trial and error at first and probably a expensive learning curve.
I have just taken delivery off a 100grain .311 Lee mould from the USA. Its a long time since I have purchased any moulds I am not impressed with the build of this one the finish is poor the mating surfaces don't look to bad but the rest of the mould block leaves a lot to be desired. I will give it a try at the weekend and see how it performs.

I do have a copy of the drawings of the original FMJRN Carcano bullet, which I want to reproduce as a cast version with 2 alterations. I want to increase the diameter to .271 and make provision for a gas check.
