The company I work for use it as well for flat seals in some applications instead of o rings. either that or ptfe carbon.

PEEK is normally selected for an application for its ability to retain its mechanical properties above 200 even to 350-400C, for lower temp requirements an acetal co polymer or block composite might be sufficient & at ade fraction the price.
Define the application critical requirements & I guess many people here can suggest why they use or what might be suitable. Used it compounded with Ptfe +bronze powder for drill head thrust bearings using mud as a lube it worked well

Quality control of Scottish Ethanol. & RDX/HMX
& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?
