Re: PEEK Polymers
Hellishly expensive material to buy if you need a decent sizes lump or want it in any quantity.
Used it a couple of times to make heated sealing bars and thermo-former tooling platens but longevity, if I remember correctly, was a bit of a problem.

Re: PEEK Polymers
We use it at work. What did you want to know about it. Its expensive stuff. We have some very clued up people they may be able to help if you have a specific question you need answering.
Victrex the company that manufacture peek polymers have a research facility across the way from us.

Re: PEEK Polymers
I was mostly interested in how well it machines and if there are any issues or pitfalls to look out for. The material will be milled as opposed to turned. I also found Victrex last night via Google so thank you for confirming them. It looks like there are very few people dealing with PEEK over here so they are going to be top of my list.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
Re: PEEK Polymers
We machine it all the time it machines well on the lathe. We use it for pump gears .we make seals from it. If you have any specific questions I can ask the guy who machines it.
Re: PEEK Polymers
We turn it and also mill it you need to use a carbide cutter at low speeds. We only use PEEK if its a high temperature application because its very expensive. Otherwise we use glass reinforced nylon. We buy it from a company in North Shields they sell it in any quantities you want.
PEEK above 250c
Glass reinforced nylon up to approx. 150c
A example price is:
300mm round bar one foot long.
PEEK =£145.03
Glass reinforced Nylon £23.35
I can send you a small off cut of each if you want to have a play.

Re: PEEK Polymers
Alpha1 - A small off cut would be great if possible, I had hoped to call a couple of places about it today but was waylaid with work and have only just finished now.

Re: PEEK Polymers
If you pm me your address I will pop them in the post.
They are only small pieces about 2"x2" square and 1" deep the PEEK piece is about 2" deep.
We have bigger pieces but they have not been machined yet and they are bought in for jobs.
We buy ours from
Bay Plastics
Unit H1,
Tyne tunnel trading estate,
North Shields,
Tyne and Wear.

They may have a website and I am sure there are others probably nearer to you.
