How strange that's a really heavy out lay my local dealers can get any thing I want for my shooting needs having to go that length to obtain bullets is pretty serious.

Ok I might pay more but I just buy smaller quantities. For the kind of shooting I do 100yards 200yards 300yards maximum I don't need exotic bullets I use Lapau. A max or Sierras I don't care what ever is the cheapest at the time and my local Registered firearms dealer who goes out of his way to get stuff for me gets my support. I can get them to group to my satisfaction quite nicely at the distances I shoot at no problem what so ever.
But what ever floats your boat I suppose.

Nosler Custom Competition are not exotic bullets by any means!, they are a good consistent midrange (100-600yds) bullet which are a bit cheaper than say A-Max and are highly regarded in the US. In my Steyr they will happily produce 1/2MOA (even with me behind the trigger!). The same loads in the Howa are around 1 to 1.25MOA but I've not done any load development for it.

Buying Sierra MatchKings from Kranks in 500s works out at £284/1000, the Nosler were £182/1000 so a fairly massive 35% saving on costs. With the bulk buy on powder and primers I now have enough components to reload around 3 to 4000 rounds, not only will this give a consistent reloading specification it will keep the cost of our target reloads down to around £35/100 for the next 3 years. My son and I shoot outdoor target once or sometimes twice a month during the summer and can get through 100-300 bullets so it works out a lot cheaper than buying in small batches for us.

I wonder what the boat-tail angle is? I've read that the product line is closely based on the corresponding SMK, so if they copied the steeper boat-tail angle of the 30 cal 168 SMK that would explain the poor performance at 1000. I can't find any reference that specifies the boat-tail angle, but looking at the photos on this page it looks like it is sharper on the 168 than the 155 and 175 bullets. [Dave - do you have any left to confirm this?]

As a side note, it's interesting that the paragraph about Gary Rasmussen on the Nosler 'Custom Competition' product page (which says 'US This', 'Camp Perry that', 'He only shoots Nosler® Custom Competition™ bullets') is accompanied by a photo of Gary showing off a nice long-range group - in the Queen's final on Stickledown, in which he can only have been shooting RG or RUAG.

Thanks for the kind offer, but I think I'm going to buy a box or two regardless. I've seen enough to convince me that they are worth a punt for short range work, and by the time I could test them (a month or more from now) they might have sold out.

Rox, I will see if I have any left and if so take a closer look and get back to you.

And best of luck with that as well :55:

Unless of course you have a nice extension tube (?) and shell holder with you, in which case you can have 5 bullets and a cup of tea (with sugar!).

Excellent - 2000 of those babies now inbound. I just hope they have some left once I've tested them. If they work I'll really be stocking-up!
