Re: 600 yard scope
The EB 10x42 is a good choice but sought after as I think the air gun lads go mad for them too and I don't think they're available new anymore?
At least 3 guys I shoot with have used them at 600 with good results but eventually switch for higher magnification (they might just be getting older though and going squinty eyed smile2 )
I swapped mine over for one of fox's 10 x 40 and had the same experience, sent first one back and got it changed with no grief for one that's been excellent for years (odd when you take a scope off and put a cheaper one on though tongueout )

Re: 600 yard scope
Hmmm, what would be a good magnification for 600 yards then? We use x6 fixed scopes at 300 and so thought we might not need to go beyond x10 for 600 yards.

Re: 600 yard scope
The whole magnification question is bound to raise some opinions tongueout
Nothing wrong at all with 10x at 600 but some of us like magnification to see exactly where we are placing our shots, especially when the gun and Ammo's shooting well razz
It can be surprising just how much of a cross hair can cover on a target at distance, some will shoot excellently with no worries at but others will want a better close up view.
It always surprises me just how many people have high mag scopes but then shoot at low magnification
For me I like the best view possible of what I'm shooting at, you can always wind it back if you get poor light or mirage and back up again when it improves.
Also down to the reticule, thicker lines will obscure more in theory, I like a nice small target dot but then I'm only shooting paper so it's not a problem
Don't be put off by a good 10 x, that said I also have great fun with my no4 at 600 with a cheapo 4x that doesn't put me off as it still assists me in placing the shots
I also prefer second focal plane as then the ret line doesn't get bigger when I wind it up, some swear by FFP for range finding etc but when your on the range you know how far you are away from the target anyway

Re: 600 yard scope
Ah, reticules (reticles if you are one of the colonials)...
Our preference would be for an inverted German post type, ie, broad horizontal lines and one vertical line (coming down from the top) pointing towards the centre of the field of view to aid quick acquisition, with a ring in the centre to allow good alignment on a circular target. Below the ring, a finer vertical line with cross hatches to allow for bullet drop at range. Offset to one side, low down, a rangefinding graticule similar to those on POSP scopes.

Re: 600 yard scope
How about a Meopta ZD 3-12x50 Tactic if you can still find one for sale?
Or a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 with either a 4-Plex or Accu-Range reticle?
There's plenty of high quality pre-owned scopes out there without purchasing "Best Quality" Chinese rubbish tongueout
I take that back... I did buy a Norinco JW-25 for a bet and it's excellent!

Re: 600 yard scope
We have nothing against second paw scopes - our Pecars were all pre-owned !

The P1 Bryant is vaguely similar, I have a 4-16 PMII with one.meles meles wrote:Ah, reticules (reticles if you are one of the colonials)...

Re: 600 yard scope
Yes, very similar to that, but with the German post inverted and some fine lines below the aiming point for hold over
