My personal view now is that in ear protection is possibly ok for shotgun, but definitely a bit lacking for full bore. Your mileage may vary.

I discovered I have a head cold on Sunday when the recoil pressure wave from next doors FP came in via my head likea driven 6inch nail regardless of plugs & cans. Conclusion - sound travels thru gases, liquids & snot.

The rubbery foam plugs are extremely good at stopping noise, the ones I've been using work so well I have problems hearing the RCO!
About time I purchased a set of HL's or Peltors.
I tried a set of ebay specials and the results are amazing.
The gain on ordinary audio levels are excellent for snooping on conversations 50 yards away and you can hear the RCO fart from the other side of the range.

I was lucky enough to pick up some, ex military contract, un-issued Peltor Bulls-Eye 111 defenders for £10 from my local military surplus store last year.
They are very efficient, even the guy with the M44 Mosin carbine doesn't bother me any more!

I absolutly love Sordin when I shoot full bore or pistols. I have a suprem pro IV neck band and a pro X head band . They are both excellent, the quality of the hearing with the pro X is just amazing. Both sets are so confortable out of the box that I never bother fitting the gel cups that I bought extra, even wearing them 8 hours a day. They are slim so you can wear them under a helmet should you need.

There is always in my bag a pair of SureFire EP3 ear-plugs. They are also very confortable, you can wear them non stop as they enable you to hear the surrounding sounds. Not as good as electronic sets but for my sunday morning 22Lr they are more than enough. They are also very cheap.

For guests & friends, I bought couple of pairs of British army issued peltor ear-defenders. If I have a nervous or novice shooter I tend to give them my sordin so they feel more relax hearing all the instructions loud & clear without any effort. When that is the case I use those Peltors and I must say that they do the job superbly and they only cost 5 quids

Re- Oven Pa,

I first bought my pro X years ago. I was surprised because I was under the impression from what the saleman told me that the difference between the VI and the X was mainly some bluetooth connection, while in fact voices and outside noises can get slightly distorted with my VI. It is very subtle but I could honnestly forget I am wearing the X while I would not with the VI.
