why dont you just have to notify them via e-mail what you have and when you sell um

The independent watchdog, the Regulatory Review Group in Scotland, has found that the Scottish Government’s airgun licensing consultation took place without a business and regulatory impact assessment. The group investigated the consultation at BASC’s request. BASC has written to policy officials in charge of the consultation at Police Division and to the Cabinet Secretary for Justice asking what they plan to do to remedy this deficiency.

Costly mistakes have already been made as a result of a discredited Scottish licensing scheme for knife sales. The Scottish Government can learn from those mistakes by scrapping airgun licensing proposals in the face of significant opposition and no impact assessment.

My point is that be it a fish and chip shop man or a police man or even an RFD, they don't and cannot know the outcome of a government vote before it happens. The FEO was very likely just voicing HIS own unsubstantiated opinion.

If this country has got to the point where a single policeman is making government policy then it is a very sad world we are living in. tesnews

There will be no vote on this and even if there was, the SNP has such a majority that it would pass easily.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "We have a long-standing commitment to crack down on the misuse of guns, and a licensing scheme for airguns will help address the problems these weapons can cause to individuals and communities in the wrong hands.

"We are not banning air weapons outright, but there has to be a legitimate use for them. We do not believe there should be half a million unlicensed firearms in 21st-century Scotland.

"We are not consulting on the principle of licensing; this will happen. While our primary concern is for public safety, we do not wish to penalise those who use air weapons responsibly and who can demonstrate a legitimate use for a gun such as sport shooting or pest control.

"Our plans to introduce a licensing regime for air weapons represent an important first step towards devolving all powers on firearms to the Scottish Parliament, something I will continue to lobby the UK Government for."

While BASC and others are saying we can stop this from happening, in reality I don't think we can - not that I'm giving up. The best we can hope for is that proves to be too costly and unworkable in it's current format and it goes back for redesign. By delaying and putting as many technical hurdles in the way, we buy enough time that the referendum and the following election causes it to be put on the back burner.
