selling sec1 guns and what to do on your license
I'm a little confused on the issue of selling sec1 guns as someone said to me some time ago that everytime you sell a gun you have to send your license back in to get that slot on your license cleared so you can purchase a replacement of the same calibre if you wanted a replacement.
I thought if I wanted to buy another gun the same calibre and only had one slot then as long as I sold that gun and the sale was recorded on my license and flo was informed then I could purchase a replacement.
Could someone please clarify the situation please

Don't you record the sale of your firearm on the purchasers firearms licence? Therefore until that 'just sold' firearm is removed from your licence by your FLO you still have that slot filled (at least it'll look that way to any potential seller of a new rifle who has to record the info on your license).Primer wrote: I thought if I wanted to buy another gun the same calibre and only had one slot then as long as I sold that gun and the sale was recorded on my license and flo was informed then I could purchase a replacement.

I'm sure more experienced shooters will be along shortly to help you out -I've yet to sell any of my rifles

1. Sell a S.1 gun. Enter sale onto buyers FAC. No written change to your FAC.
2. Write to police within 7 days, informing them of sale; give full information on buyer.
3. Ask for a new Form 101.
4. Complete above form, listing the new caliber you want, or a slot for identical caliber to what you just sold.
5. Send FAC & Form 101 to police.
6. ...wait

That's an arse, I will have to be more particular in future purchases then or put in a variation for extra slots for .22 rifles and sec1 shotguns so I don't have to wait 3-4 months for the firearms dept to process paperwork, think that will have to wait for winter.saddler wrote:1. Durham will accept a written request for a 1 for 1 variation, no need for the form.
I've just sold my .223 so will email a copy of the transfer form and request the variation by email followed by handing in a printed copy and my FAC later this week.

Ditto. Exept I'll wait four months for my ticket to come back with the variation.....

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Primer
Either
Apply for a one-for-one variation (free) when you sell one gun and buy another
or
Apply for a variation to enable you to purchase the new firearm - and show good reason etc (and pay the fee for a variation).
If all you are doing is selling a gun, make sure you get a receipt for it from the buyer. Otherwise, when the police turn up to check or at renewal time, they ask where the firearm that is on your FAC is, and you can't produce it, and an admin faff starts until they prove to themselves where the gun is.

Grampian would give me the 1 for 1 variation for a replacement rifle before I had sold the first one.
The returned FAC would state something along the lines of "Authority to purchase x rifle on sale of y rifle."
Don't know how it will change now that we have just the one Force now.

It is interesting how each firearms department appears to have a slightly different interpretation on the correct way to deal with things.
If I sell a rifle I email my licensing team immediately so they now know.
I download form 101, fill it in and send it off with a letter stating what I want and why and attach my FAC.
7 days later my FAC is back, job done
As to returning my original after I get a replacement, or have permission to by and sell or even hang on for a few days, no chance. My 1:1 has to be in within 7 days or I loose the slot.
I do find it a tad worrying that they all have a slightly different take on how things are done.
