Ear protection

I just wondered what everyone uses to protect the old ears, I have a set of the noise cancelling ear muffs which are good, they do the job but in the winter I game shoot and then spring/ summer it is bunnies and on the range. So ideally I would like the thought of ear plugs as they are not so bulkly and can be kept in shooting jacket pockets so they are not forgotten. But I want something that is effective as the muffs. Any suggestions?

MSA Soderins is what I use and recommend.

Sordins or yellow foam ear plugs, the former are very good and the yellow plugs are a last resort.

What about the electronic in ear type plugs?

Can't abide non-electronic ones. With normal ones I can never hear the RCO saying 'in your own time'... let alone STOP!!!). Bit of a safety issue. tongueout

During our last foray on this topic the point was made that plugs only give partial protection as loud sound, such as a dischraging firearm, can also enter and do hearing damage through the outside of the ear so muffs ar preferable to plugs of any kind.

I did ask for verification on this aural accusation but it was not forthcoming but it made some sense to me, so I have stopped using plugs. Until such time as I am presented with contrary evidence I have decided to play safe with me lugs.

Sordins are superb in that respect, turn them up and I can hear what the people at the other end of the point are talking about, turn them off and I can concentrate without distractions.

I never turn mine on, one of the benefits of good muffs is that you don't have to listen to other peoples drivel.

Even in the past I have doubled up with both plugs and muffs. Although you hear squat all the lies the problem, no RCO commands would be able to get through. Does anyone had a go with the moulded ear plugs?
