Personally I dont believe they are hit and miss. There has been a huge amount of publicity by those few who had bad guns, and I quite understand their points of view in this respect.

We dont hear a lot of posotive publicity from satisfied customers. They just get on with shhoting their guns.

Anyone have any idea just how many have been produced?

I reckon there are at least 10 lever release rifles in our club alone, covering one of every type he's made and we have some still on order. The only problem I have seen is with one of the latest Glock models not ejecting the cases, eventually Bob took it back and fitted a longer ejector as the short one causes the cases to eject back into the action due to the timing being wrong.

...as part of my on-going one-for-one variation I had a home visit last June.

At the time I was told that as I owned a SGC it may possibly need to be taken for examination to check if it was one of the early batch that were withdrawn due to S.5 issues. Quite a lot of info was provided to me as to what the exact problem was with the SGC design, what their tests may be, etc. as given that fact that I'd had mine for so long they were sure it must be one of the first batch

I said I was not happy about the gun being taken & did not see any reason WHY it would be taken, even though they were quite insistant that the gun may go full-auto if it had the early release system

Maybe I should not have objected though & let them take my SGC...as finding out how they were planning to get a .22 semi-auto rifle to chamber 9mm ammo may have been a good story for the forum & I'm sure I'd have had some very interesting photos to upload afterwards.

Just MY direct experience of "owning" a SGC lever-release - but the ultra rare .22 semi-auto variant :roll:


The above "problem gun" follows the previous issue from the year before, of their possibly wanting to take my Win. 1897 away "as it may be a S.5 gun" too as "when you keep the trigger held back it will instantly fire every time you close the action"

I got one from the first batch that had the Section 5 buzz around them. I received it on the Wednesday and found out through posts on the UKPSA website (no contact from SGC) on the FRIDAY that they were being declared S5 and the police would want it off me. One day taken off work, round trip to Henry Kranks and 500rds later, the gun worked flawlessly, although i could only load the mags up to 15-20rds as at the time i didn't have a MAGLULA to get more ammo stuffed in the magazines. I didn't test whether my gun was an S5 one by trying to get the gun to shoot semi-auto by holding the lever down, which in hindsight i regret.

The gun went into police custody in February and i did not get a replacement until October. This was due to Bob refusing to pay the Section 5 courier fee to pick the gun up from the police, which he claimed would have been £1500?? I had to spend months liasing between the Home Office and Durham police to get a definition as to what constitutes a S5 firearm (i.e. only a complete gun, or are its parts S5 in themselves, even though individually all can be found in S1 guns). Eventually i got a letter from the Home Office giving their opinion that the component parts of an S5 gun are in fact S1 parts, but could not be transported together in their entirity by a normal courier. This allowed the gun to be split up between 2 couriers which SGC eventually agreed to pay for. I think there was only one other person (in Liverpool i believe) that had to wait longer for their replacement.

My gun now works fairly well, with the vast majority of jams occurring during competitions so i can only assume its the aggressive handling that causes the problems

I have the UZI mag style, which I know the dealer had for some months before I purchased it.

Ovenpaa and I changed the front hand guard for a Samson job before I had a chance to fire it.
On shooting for the first time I found that it was failing to feed at an unacceptable rate. Certainly every 5-10 rounds, where by the round would fail to be picked up correctly by the bolt moving forward, resulting in the round being violently rammed in to the upper above the chamber. This would damage every round.

Bob had the rifle back and returned it in good time, around 2 weeks. He believed that I had moved the barrel when changing the hand guard.

Unfortunately the problem persisted.
I had a load of other mags arrive form the USA and found them not to be so problematic so questioned the original magazine.

The rifle was returned a second time and Bob had it back with me 1 week later.
Since then, and I have not put that many rounds through it, I am only experiencing failure to feeds on the last round of the supplied UZI mag.

The after marker USA mags are working OK.

As others have mentioned I found the thread cap on the muzzle end to be detrimental to accuracy. It works lose withing a few rounds and groups open up quite visibly. Unable to source a flash hinder or muzzle break in the correct thread I had "One less Charley" from the forum make me a false moderator. Partly cosmetic & partly thread protector.

When speaking to Bob he has never advised against using hand loads, he has advised as to which projectiles he believes should work best.
I found that loading long has been necessary to prevent the miss feeds that I described and as such can not buy off the shelf ammunition.

Unfortunately we had one of the older Uzi mag models break on Monday, the bolt carrier key sheared off. It was several years old and many thousands of rounds, hopefully an easy fix.

Mine was a very early gun part of the first batch. Apart from the S5 fiasco (which Bob and Pete Starley kept me informed what was happening ) , i placed mined with local S5 dealer who cosseted it while decisions were made , got the nod and picked it up all clean and shiny again. Ever since ive been winning club comps and given it a good raggin with factory ammo with no issues other than keeping it clean. I'm sure others havent had it so plain sailing but i'm very pleased with my purchase and its a definate keeper in my collection.

Does anybody know where I can get lead 9mm factory ammunition from? PPU list it on their website but my local dealer (who gets it from Kranks) says that he can't supply it. I'm still to n00b to reload at the moment so I just want to put something factory into it. I want to use the rifle at an indoor range which has a no fmj rule.

Fiocchi make a 123gn gas check "lead less" round.
"Code 71901600 9mm LUGER Gas chk Leadless"
If you have an RFD who sells Fiocchi shotgun ammo he should be able to get it.
