I found that the 168gr A-Max, Nosler CC and Lapua Scenar (very similar profiles) would not stabilise from my Steyr (23.6" 1-10 twist) and I had some keyholes at 100m. Cast lead 160gr round nose flat points however work very nicely (As supplied by Dodgyrog)

Only if I make them. sign92
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.
Right, bald monkeys, back on subject. We were hoping if it would be possible to shoot supersonic milsurp 6.5x55 and, bigger, longer, heavier, cast lead, sub-sonic boolits, from the same barrel. Is it ?

What distances for the sub sonic load to be shot at?
Boolit weight, you'll be lucky to get much heavier than 165 gns as the throat length will limit boolit length as that is the only way you can go to increase weight, Oldfellers Cruise Missile design is about as heavy as you will get and it comes out at around 165-170 depending on mould and alloy, also if you are lucky enough to have a worn throat then you can increase the diameter somewhat giving a little more weight. My Swedes shoot 0.269" diameter boolits ranging from 120gn to 170gn designs. The 120gn is good out to 300yrds but its launched at around 1500fps. The Cruise Missile goes out at nigh on 2000 fps but that takes some work as with the fast twist in the Swedes getting over 1600 fps with cast boolits and accuracy is the PHd of cast boolit shooting.
