Very disappointed with Redding Model #2 Scale

You are doing right in going back to the retailer.

I would also email Redding and explain what you are doing and why and get their take on it. I use and highly rate their presses, scales powder dispensers and dies, although I do think their dies are way over priced. Considering their reputation their view on this would be interesting as a sticker is obviously cost saving at the expense of exactness.

It’s very disappointing to hear about the quality of the current Redding No 2 scales. I always rate these as one of the better scales, good clear markings and a sensible powder pan.
I have two Redding No 2’s , one about 15 years old and another 5-7 years old, one with an engraved scale and the other sticky tape, both are good accurate scales and graduations line up throughout the range.
I would certainly send them back; unfortunately, I guess that all the current scales are the same. The quality of all beam scales has deteriorated over the last few years as the accountants started to take over from the engineers, you only have to look at the new Lyman and RCBS R130 with the nasty plastic bases and the better RCBS scales with the crappy little plastic level adjusting disc..
The Redding is heading the same way, from a reasonable machined and knurled adjuster to a bolt with the head turned down.
I also have a couple of Redding No 1’s - good accurate scales with well engraved beam but oil damped.

I wish mine could come close to yours!!! :-) my 0 is who knows what...

And it's true the "balance screw" is a shi*... just a screw with a head that when you turn, you hit the bean scale and everything falls apart... not a good design.
Then the weight for the 1/10 on the right hand side is uncomfortable and difficult to move.

It's a pity brands go down with silly things as these ones.

I have phoned Norman Clark Gunsmiths. I spoke with Mick. He said he hadn't received my email because the email on their website is "the old one". (?) I did not receive any error back. Anyway I used the new email he gave me: "mick@normanclarkgunsmith.com" I hope you find this useful.

I told him about the faulty scale and that I wanted to return it and get a full refund. He said to first send him the email so I did. I will gibe them a day, if they do not reply tomorrow I will contact them again to be sure my rights are respected.

Dear all,

I spoke with Mick from Norman Clark GunSmiths. He was, as always, very friendly and willing to help.
I seems Redding acknowledges there was a problem with their scales.
Anyway Mick offered me a refund, exchange for a different one or whatever I wanted.
Till now I have been borrowing a Lyman one from a firend and he's told me I can keep it for as long as I want... so I might get the refund.

Anyway it is also good to know who you can rely on and buy with peace of mind so that if something goes wrong they will do the right thing.
