New application referee

#1 Post by BaconButty »

**** Just hit a stumbling block, the second person I had earmarked to be a referee has declined due to not being comfortable about guns (I respect this choice but said person works in Whitehall :cool2: )

Now, my first referee was the person who introduced me to the sport and will put himself down as "friend" in the "how do you know the applicant" field... is it ok to have two of these types? Or should one really be a doctor/teacher/superhero? Does "a person of certain standing in the community" mean something along those lines, or does it just mean "not a thug"?

I was hoping to hand this in tomorrow! (and the referees would post theirs off tonight of course)

I normally use the secretary at our local club and a good neighbour whom I have known for ages and she has no issues with guns.

Ahh but that's for variations right? My club secretary has only known me 12 months and the forum insists on new applicants having 2 referees who have known you for at least 2 years.

As I recall there is a mechanism for people who don't normally mix with people of 'social standing' or whatever the phrase is. This is intended to account for the fact that not everyone mixes with lawyers, priests, doctors etc. Check the notes you got with your application form.

Does the form 101 and attendant paperwork not say who is suitable and who is excluded from being your referees?

I'm working from memory here, so not reliable.

Apologies, that would be for renewals...

This is where SGC and FACs differ.

The SGC application requires a single referee who is in public record and of notable character.

The FAC application requires just 2 people who have known you for 3 years+ who are not excluded from being a referee. I had two friends referee my application, and my FEO had no issue with them.

The form (download only, stations here don't hold the form now) didn't have any 'notes' or anything :/ I'm self employed as well so can't use a work colleague.
