I am warming to them, what class of competition can they be used in and do they allow optical sights?

Ovenpaa, I have a 94AE in .45 long colt.

NRA run Gallery Rifle comps, UKPSA have accepted Gallery Rifle as a discipline. Both accept optical/red dot etc

Shoot 'em the way they built 'em I say (Says he with a Williams peep sight on the back!)

When I bought my Winchetster, which I have come to love and serves me very well; I was advised, buy a Marlin, Winchesters are crap.

I have a Winchester 94e 20" barrel in 38/357 the only calibre choice," 2 for the price of 1" which I can use a scope or the standard sights..

Ovenpaa, we shoot PP1 CoF with the Lever Actions and variations thereof. The ckub is starting Bianchi this year, whatever that is :lol:

There is lots of choice and even the chance to shoot back to 300yds at Bisley.

They are great fun but think Marlin. My Winchester is a pig and you sometimes get rounds dropping out under the carrier assembly and jamming the action. Easy fixed with an empty ball point pen but your goosed if that happens on PP1. Has been suggested that 357 rounds in a Winchester need to be crimped like a bugger to stop this happening. Remains to be seen.

Most are range dependant, our range is 25yds, if we had a 50yd range we'd use that I guess. From Gallery Rifle UK web site -

The Events
The majority of events are shot at distances between 10m and 50m, with a few going out to 300yd.
There is a large selection which only requires a range of 25m.
