Got a shock today with ammo price

#1 Post by Primer »

Went to get some Ammo today but the shop didnt have what i wanted but i saw some shotgun cartridges on special, well same price as last time i brought some (November) so picked up a slab of Diana 12g 28gram for £35 and thought i best get a slab of 20g 24gram for the wife, then the shock £90 in total sign01 The 20g have gone up £8 a box to £55 since last time (17% increase **** ) just glad she doesnt shoot as many as me, think i will see what deals are on at the shooting show.

Anyone spotted ammo prices going up like this, i notice the CCI minimags i use had gone up 7% since last time too?

You'll be better off getting a 2nd-hand MEC or Lee shotshell press - or even one of the Lee Loaders (they are about your level of expertise, ya hit them with a hammer)

I have a few different 12-ga presses, but they were bought as a means to load the more exotic (i.e very expensive & never stocked at the RFD's) solid slug & buckshot that I need for comps.
One of the places I shoot is felt-wad only too...the last time I bought some of them they were far from cheap, so I may be adding felt-wadded birdshot to the menu before long

IF funds were more liquid I'd even consider a shot-maker to cut out that part of the supply chain & reduce cinsumable costs even more

Quick aside: what's the limit on posession of reloading "components"?

powder = 15kg (a HSE rule)
everything else* = crack on & build a fort from the boxes if it makes ya happy!!

*except S.5 hunting bullets, designed to expand: even as unloaded components they count toward your FAC totals

NRA still selling minimag at 2012 price of £8/100, but price rise policy will be implemented v soon.

I was paying £7 per 100 but now £7.50, managed to get some minimag hp's that were £6.74 per 100 last time but was spoilt by some minimag AR rounds and they worked out at £6.50 per 100 but not seen any of those since october.

The 15kg is content so it includes factory ammunition, reloaded ammunition, shotgun cartridges, reloading and black powders and there is even an allocation for primers.

I went to buy some 12g slugs earlier. Cheapest ones they had were £17.26 for a box of 5, yes 5 :o

What were they, Solid Silver Werewolf Specials??

I can make my slug cartridges for about that price too, but for 50 to 70 of them - depending on primer cost & what powder I use

£3.45 ea is a joke - even if they got the box sizes mixed up that'd be £17.26 for 25 (more the normal price) & work out at 70p each - not cheap but an average price

Slug reloading is even more cost effective than rifle reloading - and at current prices depending on what kit you buy you can even get close to breaking even within the first 100 cartridges...
