Something could be fashioned easily from an adjustable bank stick that is common place in any tackle shop, add a multi-poise head and jobs a good-un. Rod-pods, as used by carp fishermen could also form a stable platform-probably cheaper than photographic type stuff as well.

Ah yes, good thinking. I always forget that fishing kit often has plenty of uses in shooting too. Probably because both pastimes involve humping loads of gear to a remote location where you stay still for hours on end in the cold and rain!
