These people are not shooters or true spoertsmen, just ammo wasters and self interested traitors to our sport. I hope the Yanks send a clear message to the anti's.

I'd agree up to a point. There are some things on sale today that puzzle me. I'd back the ownership of one 100% but I'd like to know exactly what you can do with a belt fed rifle that you can't do with a mag fed one. (big field, many bagers perhaps?) It seems like different for differents sake rather than giving an advantage in any particular discipline.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

Some firearms might not seem to be suitable for a certain sport say clay shooting with a musket....but it does ramp the difficulty up for the shooter  And many would enjoy the Challenge. Hi cap magazined .22's for example might not seem suitable for target shooting but can be a great way to have some fun on the range....you got to have fun somehow  Belt fed rifles would definately remove the need for expensive magazines....I have seen .22 cal micro versions of the Browing 1919 and the 1917 along with a .22 Gatling gun. You'd have a pretty elite collectors club with those  A Vickers could be classed under Historic collecting for an FAC...its a classic wartime firearm.

Well the uneducated at the sun have struck again, Whilst waiting for my takeaway tonight I thought I would have a flick through the rag to see if there was any follow up of yesterdays joke.
They reported on a gun fair in the US where various weapons of mass destruction were freely available, as well as a course for £45 "to learn how to conceal weapons" any???? clapclap
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

I've seen one of my chosen pastimes decimated over the decades, lost my semi autos CFs in 86-87 and pistols in '97.

I was fed up then and I'm fed up now with hearing some factions within the sport of shooting and other related pursuits who are willing to criticize and sacrifice the use of a particular type of firearm in the futile hope that it will preserve their own interests/discipline.

As a pistol/rifle/shotgun shooter I attended various BASC meetings in the late 90's after Dunblane and I was frankly ashamed to hear what was being said about pistol shooting by the shotgun fraternity.

At the Winchester Guild Hall meeting I stood up and did my best to defend the ownership of handguns and frankly, Swift and his cohorts weren't interested despite pretending to represent all shooting sports.

If any of this latest scare is real, it's about time that everybody starts to pull together because it is just another skid down the slippery slope we've been travelling for some years now.

A start would be for all of the shooting press be it, horse and hounds, archery, air gun, soft air, paintballing, shotgun and rifle to get off their ars*s and recognize that there is a threat to the whole lot as each bit gets nibbled away by the anti-rodents. Editors, get your act together and carry editorials pointing out the bleedin' obvious route we're all heading down.

For god sake, a lot of the magazines covering these different pursuits are owned by the same company's and publishers, what is so difficult?

Also, get out there on the web on other disciplines forums to spread the word.

You have to ask the Sun 'Author' what the hell have gun shows in the States and CCW courses got to do with the UK?

Chalk and Cheese.

The subject might be of interest to elements of shooting sports in the UK (should be all) but Joe the page 3 gawper ain't interested until it interupts his thought processes in some way.

They're obviously trying to whip up a frenzy - questions is, who's got the power, influence or money that can instigate that agenda?

PaulR any???? any???? any????

Perhaps if guns came with a picture of some birds boobs they'd like it better.

Sad pathetic self abusers the Sun lot, and the reason WHY they do need controlled...or hung!

Still, I wonder how they'd react if an ad was placed, maybe some terminal incontinence....nowt like publicity!

I reckon it's Gill Marshall-Andrews, her husband and their two next door neighbours (also known as the Gun Control "Network").

I'm not kidding, it really is just the four of them. Might not be their neighbours, but I found a picture years ago with a caption that accidentally admitted the GCN has just 4 members. Our Gill doesn't reply to questions on how big her pet project is.
